Il Golfo di Baratti

The Gulf of Baratti

The Gulf of Baratti is located on the Tuscan coast between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ligurian Sea not far from Piombino.

This beautiful gulf is one of the most popular destinations on the Tuscan coast, rich in nature and history is a corner of paradise.

The origins of the Gulf of Baratti are ancient, it was one of the most important Etruscan ports in history, in fact, it was a place of great trade and agreements. But, important, was also the processing of iron which is testified by the important findings made on the territory.

The amazing beach still carries traces of these exchanges and this processing, in fact, the silvery black reflex due to the residues of those productions is clearly visible.
Today, on the Gulf of Baratti, there is a small port that gives this place a characteristic atmosphere. In the Etruscan period, the port was much larger and more important and was in a different place. The sea has, indeed, “eaten” the beach and it is probable that the ancient port was located 50 meters from the current shore, today submerged by water.

The seabeds that gently slopes to the sea, the sandy beach and the clear waters are ideal for families with children but also for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts who can enjoy the beautiful fauna and flora of the seabed.

Behind the beach of the Gulf of Baratti is the beautiful pine forest that offers many paths you can walk to explore the coast and enjoy the cool of the trees.

The Gulf of Baratti is a very interesting tourist destination, will allow you to enjoy the beautiful Tuscan sea and discover the ancient people thanks to the history that still surface from this area.
